Yoga Day

Every couple of months I host a morning of Intensive Yoga - which is a 2 1/2 hour class going deeper into the asanas and pranayama, and also a longer yoga nidra (relaxation). This is a chance to let go enough to experience postures that you may never have achieved before. Usually we have a theme for example: "Opening the Heart", etc but this next one on Saturday, 10 October is "Whole Body/Mind Experience". After the bliss of the class, there is a chance to have tea and a muffin with other participants, and continue the 'vibe' with like-minded people.

This time we (Martin & I) will follow with a workshop on Ayurveda in the afternoon - learn a bit about your body/mind type and how to achieve well-being by making simple life-style and dietry changes. Living in harmony with nature and knowing your specific body/mind type makes it so much easier.

Join us for either or both workshops by contacting us.

Yoga & EFT?

Hi Everyone,
Ghandi said: "Happiness occurs when what you think, what you say and what you do are in perfect harmony." - not so easy is it?

Basically, this means that you need to live your truth. That is what yoga is all about - living according to your truth incorporating values & morals. Contrary to what a lot of people think Yoga is not just an exercise system. It is a whole being experience resulting in a balanced life in all areas like, body, mind, emotions, family, society & spirit.

To get the emotions - fears, phobias, doubts, etc - in balance and get yourself feeling whole again try a session of EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) - in an hour you can get through a mighty lot of issues and they're gone for good. Sometimes the emotions block us and result in physical stiffness, aches and pains or even chronic illnesses.

Hope to see you - book an appointment -

EFT for Hayfever

So far tapping away the hayfever is working - with the new garden and all the flowers that will bloom in spring and summer we have to eradicate hayfever. Keeping the meridians in balance seems to be the answer. - Yippee!

Organic Veg

Transformed the garden this last week. Looking good. Mostly indigenous plants, replaced the lawn. Ground covers, colour and then the vegetable patch. Planted 140 veges and herbs - should have a wonderful crop and not too far in the future either. They love all the compost and water, and of course, sunshine which has been out for the past 2 days.

Ananda Sanga Yoga students - love it - what a difference a garden can make. Soon we will be able to feel the peaceful vibes and enjoy all the lovely colours and variety of flowers and plants.

Now to continue with the other half - which is bad need of beautifying - to match the rest! Fun, fun, fun in the sun!

Wednesday Talks at Ananda Sanga

Tonight is the September 09 Talk. It is on Ayurveda - just the introduction as we will follow it with a workshop on October the 10th.

The five elements that make up everything are combined in different ratios in us too. Our mind/body type is dependant on these ratios, and once we know this info we can adapt and adjust our lives accordingly. We then live in harmony and balance, much happier and healthier.

Perhaps a few changes to diet, exercise and lifestyle can make all the difference even if you seem to be following a 'healthy' regime now.

Why not join us - to learn more !

Patanjali

The wave forgets the truth that it is ocean,
thinking itself to be the grand shape, which it has temporarily taken.
For a while, it takes on the rupa (form) of wave.
Finally, it remembers its true rupa (form) of ocean.
The two coexist, though one is true, and the other, though beautiful, is only relatively true.
So too, we humans forget our true nature, but, through yoga, can remember.

Poem by my 16 year old son

Self Image poem by Roshan Combrinck

Some people take things personally,
Others just don’t care,
But sometimes things are better
Than the face you have to wear.

Some people may call you fat,
Skinny or just crap,
But often it’s the voice inside
That makes you wanna go back.

This is the voice you should listen to,
Not those that get you down.
Cuz if you do,
You might just find
Life looks like a better rhyme.

Gratitude

What am I grateful for right now?
A warm place to sleep
Fresh wholesome food
Surrounding mountains and sea
Sense faculties all working well
Able to think things through
All my yoga students

Yoga Teaching

I have been teaching yoga since before 1987. First it started when my teacher of many years, mentored me into assisting her teach her regular weekly classes, then sometimes standing in for her, then starting my own small class ... all this while still working full-time as an Analytical Chemist for the CSIR in Durban, South Africa.

After much further yoga reading, training and experience I eventually gave up my career as research chemist, moved to the beautiful Western Cape to a small village called Somerset West, in 1991. Here Martin (husband) & I opened a small healing centre then known as Essentially for Health, which encompassed our Yoga school called Ananda Sanga (named by 2 great teachers from the USA). We offered massage, reflexology, aromatherapy (all by Sarah); nutritional councelling; lifestyle education; meditation and of course I taught yoga classes.

By 1996 we required larger premises and built the existing Ananda Sanga with an octagonal shaped yoga room, and some smaller rooms and buildings. Joined by 3 other teachers yoga classes were offered 2 or 3 times a day. These included specialised children's classes, senior citizen classes, and private yoga therapy. Sarah had returned to England by this stage so it was only Yoga, Meditation and Ayurveda on offer.

Since then 100's of people have trodden the path up to the beautiful octagonal room, their lives changed by yoga, for the better.
